The board of the Icelandic Writers’ Union voices its strong support for writers, artists and journalists in Ukraine and emphasizes the importance of freedom of expression and speech at all times. At a time when nations and individuals have to endure tyranny and violence, the message of free expression and creativity is urgent.
Peace, freedom of speech and democratic and open exchange of views play a fundamental role in human society and these evident and valuable rights must never be restricted. The board of the Icelandic Writers’ Union demands a satisfactory solution to be found immediately to the horrible situation that the war-torn people of Ukraine are currently experiencing and that the voices of freedom and peace to be heard loud and clear.
